In recent years humanity has advanced greatly in its battle with cancer. More ways of cancer treatment have been invented, and there have been enough anecdotal evidence that hemp compounds, especially cannabidiol (CBD), are helpful in managing symptoms. Although CBD is still understudied due to dubious legal status of cannabis, small studies and users’ statements prove its great therapeutic properties.

CBD can be used as a natural supplement when treating cancer for:

  • Pain treatment. Tumors often cause nerve injury, invasion of bone, or pressure on internal organs, resulting in severe pain. Moreover, cancer treatment can be as painful as the disease itself. In many cases conventional painkillers have few to none effect. CBD fights pain and inflammation without building tolerance. It improves a patient’s quality of life throughout all stages of cancer.

  • Stimulating appetite and fighting nausea. Aggressive cancer treatment can lead to nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and weight in patients. People with cancer often find themselves unable to engage in the social interaction of meals due to these problems. CBD has proven to be the solution in improving food intake and preventing weight loss.

  • Stress relief and better sleep. CBD acts on the endocannabinoid system, which is centrally involved in the regulation of mood. It eases anxiety and stress, alleviates depression and promotes healthier sleep. Increased quality of sleep is also explained by alleviation of bothering pain and nausea.

It is too soon to make any claims about CBD for cancer treatment due to the lack of large clinical trials. The research is in its early stages so far and more studies are planned.

CBD has fewer side effects comparing to traditional medications for pain management because of specific features of the cannabinoid receptors in the body. Also, CBD overdose cannot be lethal as the drug does not affect the central nervous system in the way that other painkillers do.

Please consult your doctor before using CBD or any other compound during cancer treatment to make sure that it will not react with any of your medication.
